Hurricane Harvey made landfall this week in Houston, TX. This devastating hurricane was classified as a category 4 hurricane when it slammed into Texas. It brought record rainfall mixed with up to 132 mph wind gusts. Making this hurricane one of the deadliest to make landfall in the United States since hurricane Wilma in 2005. Hurricane Harvey ends a 12-year record of no hurricanes making landfall in the United States over a category 3 intensity.
Harvey has brought damaging winds and floods. It is estimated that this hurricane has already done billions of dollars in damages to homes, businesses and infrastructure. Throughout Texas, over 300,000 people have been left without electricity. Harvey has damaged over 48,700 homes in the affected areas. It is estimated that over 30,000 people have been displaced as result. Approximately 13,000 people have been rescued from the devastation that Hurricane Harvey has left in it’s wake. As of the 29th of August, 38 people have lost their lives with this death toll expected to rise.
Our hearts are heavy for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with the victims, the wounded, the displaced families, the rescue and relief workers, and the countless volunteers that are there helping the affected people in the area.
In an effort to do what we can to help, Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery will be collecting donations throughout this Labor Day weekend in our tasting room (9/1 – 9/4). All collected donations will also be matched by Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery. All funds will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to help support the relief efforts.
So, please come out this weekend and support the cause.
We thank you for your generosity.
